If you’re a key decision maker in a law firm and were to stop what you are doing – right now – and ask yourself, “Am I leveraging technology effectively?”, how long would it take for you arrive at an answer?

When it comes to utilising tech in the legal sector, it’s imperative that you have a finger on the pulse and be ready to react, adapt and know what to do when technological changes arise.

British Legal Technology Forum

This was certainly a theme at the British Legal Technology Forum (BLTF) which took place two weeks ago today. The exhibition, hosted in London, is one of Europe’s largest in legal IT, and the event itself brought together over 1200 professionals from the fields of law, legal technology and IT security.

Essentially a huge hub of all things legal tech, the exhibition saw leading technology and IT security suppliers and delegates from the legal profession spread over 2500 square metres of exhibition space. Exhibitors showcased new products to help legal and security businesses operate more efficiently.

Legal IT exhibitions like the BLTF make a real difference to the legal profession, as they offer a unique insight into the direction that the world of legal IT is taking.

IT Group was delighted to be involved in the event, and we had a fantastic time exhibiting our e-Disclosure and digital investigation solution, Intella Connect. The event gave us an excellent platform to showcase the versatility of our solution to prospective clients. The important thing for us, crucial in fact, is to get up close and personal to the people who will use and benefit from our e-Disclosure software.

The exhibition certainly enabled us to do this.

With this is mind, IT Group was able to physically demonstrate the software, by really engaging with people at the stand and challenging delegates to a whodunnit digital forensic challenge, with challengers tasked with finding a culprit in the system – much like how you would use Intella Connect to search for an electronic legal document in the database.

Key takeaways

The exhibition made us consider how law firms can easily implement new ideas and technologies to improve searching for records whilst continuing to ensure that their clients documents are safe and secure.

There is a caveat to this, however: having the best technology isn’t a one-stop solution – it cannot operate exclusively. Making improvements to legal processes is multifaceted; it requires thought, expertise, and someone to help you implement and use the system. All of which can help your business immeasurably, and catapult it forward.

Technology is encouraging legal firms of all sizes to transform and alter the way in which they work, by boldly going where competitors aren’t. So how do you as a law firm take advantage of tech to adapt? Being proactive instead of reactive, and creating trends rather than riding the same old waves as the other law firms in the market.

The benefits of an effective e-Disclosure solution can have a positive influence – from both a revenue and margin perspective by saving time. The BLTF was another way in which we could physically demonstrate this.
